Athens' Finest* Contradance String Band

* in our opinion.

String Theory plays traditional old time, contradance, bluegrass and Americana music and is made up of some of Athens finest acoustic musicians.  The lineup includes from Tommy Jordan (banjo, guitar, vocals), Dick Daniels ( bass, mandolin, guitar,vocals), Antoon Speters (mandolin, banjo), Susan Staley (guitar and vocals), and Dale Wechsler (fiddle).  String Theory is available for dances, concerts, weddings and private parties.

New CD Now Available

String Theory, well known in the Athens and Atlanta folk music community for their driving renditions of traditional old time tunes, will officially release their new CD, All Wound Up, at the Melting Point in downtown Athens, on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 (http://www.meltingpointathens.com).  The 11 songs on All Wound Up were recorded at Full Moon Studio (Watkinsville, GA) in a remarkable day-long session with the six musicians performing live with no overdubs.  What resulted from that marathon session is a collection of songs and instrumental pieces that represents a range of music that includes contradance tunes, love songs and murder ballads.

Dick Daniels, Tommy Jordan, Ned Gardiner and Ben Jordan perform at the
27th Annual Athens Human Rights Festival in downtown Athens, Georgia.  April 23, 2005.

Generally configured as a traditional, fiddle-and-banjo-driven 5-piece old-time band, we have had as few as two and as many as nine acoustic musicians for various shows.  For the 27th Athens Human Rights Festival, however, String Theory was a quartet featuring Tommy Jordan on guitar, vocals and mandolin, back for his 27th consecutive year at the festival, Dick Daniels on bass and guitar and Ned Gardiner on clawhammer banjo.  Special guest appearance, for his first time on this stage, was made by Ben Jordan (upright bass).

String Theory at Hugh Hodgson Hall Feb 2, 2008.  Habitat for Humanity Benefit Concert.
